Residential Dog Training
There are many reasons to consider a residential dog training course with the Essex Dog Trainer.
Particularly as it gives your dog excellent help and support, from an award-winning dog behaviourist.
Some owners book residential stays to fast-track puppy training. Others realise it is the best way to tackle complex behavioural issues in dogs. Sometimes, dog owners who are busy book residential dog training for convenience and speed in teaching their beloved pet new skills!
Our residential courses to train guard dogs or dogs for protective purposes are popular too.
Lastly, we offer residential training options so out of area dog owners don’t need to make multiple journeys to our specialist canine training facility in Essex.
Round the clock training and support can be vital in dealing with ingrained and severe behavioural issues in dogs. This is particularly true if you are asking, ‘Who can train an aggressive dog?”.

What’s meant by 'reactivity' dogs?
If you’re worried about your dog’s behaviour you’re not alone. Up to 85% of dog owners express concerns about their pet’s problematic attitude or activities at some stage!
Reactivity in dogs is the second more common problem owners encounter, but what classifies a dog as aggressive?
The RSPCA defines aggression in dogs as not just biting but “grumbling, growling, snarling, teeth-baring and snapping at the air without making contact.”
There’s a misconception that the cause is either a ‘bad dog’ or a ‘bad owner’!
The truth is that reactivity and other extreme behaviours in dogs often originate from fear and anxiety. It is often accompanied by inattentiveness and impulsiveness, and being defensive of their owners and their ‘territory’. Perhaps they have suffered a trauma or series of traumas (common in rescue dogs) and suffer from hyperarousal.
Extreme behaviours can negatively affect the owner, but also the dog’s quality of life too.
Our Residential Training
Young or old, small or large our training package does not discriminate. We are regularly training small Cockapoo puppies to large German Shepherds. Rest assured, your dog will be kept safe, secure and frankly… They’ll probably have the best time of their life!
We deal with aggressive dogs, as well as anxious dogs – there is probably not a single issue we’ve not come across before. Get in touch, tell us about your problems and we’ll advise on the best plan of action. After all, if our Residential Training is not the best way to deal with your dog, we’ll advise you on this and offer help in other ways.
Your dog will stay in a licensed kennel or even book a VIP package where your dogs stay at the Head Trainers home
Ongoing support is always available through one to ones. When sending your dog or puppy to us.
Please note that all packages include full residential and cost does not affect the quality of the work, simply our packages are how regular you will receive update videos and pictures of your dog throughout their training.
Aggression towards strangers, other dogs or family members demands urgent specialist attention and intense training, using the expertise of The Essex Dog Trainer.
However, other things that the Essex Dog Trainer tackles on residential courses for challenging dogs include:
• Persistent barking howling or whining.
• Destructive dogs.
• Dogs that nip, mouth or bite.
• Anxious, nervous and shy dogs.
What can you do when a dog refuses to obey commands? We can help with that too! As well as providing robust measures to stop dogs from running away.
We don’t believe in lost causes!
Booking an intense training course for dogs can be the kindest thing you do. It gives us the time and space needed to manage your dog’s welfare and happiness, at the same time as their behaviour, obedience and manageability.
If you simply need fast-tracked puppy training – or you want to book a highly recommended dog trainer and you live some distance from Essex – we may well be able to meet your goals in a matter of days.
However, the best training for aggressive dogs, or dogs with complex issues, would involve at least three weeks of residential training support. WE can discuss this honesty during the initial assessment.
Our aim is always to send them home more sociable, controllable and calm, making both the animal and owner happier and more confident.
We supply lots of follow-up advice too, and insights on how you can manage a dog’s extreme behaviours yourself.
The length of stay and levels of intervention and communication vary according to desired outcomes. So, our residential dog training courses are described at Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Every level guarantees one-to-one professional training for dogs, and a transparent working relationship with owners. As well as luxury dog accommodation at high-end kennels personally vetted and verified by our team.
There is another option too. VIP is used to describe an intense dog training course where the animal stays with the trainer, for 24-hour help in modifying behaviours.
While your dog is in our care, you will receive regular communication including reports, photographs and videos, as well as chats about progress. The frequency of these depends on your package level (see below).
Using a tried and trusted residential dog training programme ensures your pet or working animal can benefit from support in a wide range of situations. For example, their behaviour can be monitored and modified when waking, feeding, on walks in crowded areas, at night, and in parks where other dogs approach them.
We often include attendance at our Big Dog Club or Little Doggies Day Care as part of their social skills training.
It can all make a big difference to your dog’s behaviour, achieving changes even regular one-to-one training sessions can’t.
Our Basic Training covers your most common commands such as Sit, Down, Heel
Our Advanced Training covers a more in depth and higher level of obedience, such as: Recall, Protection, Advanced Obedience

Residential Dog Training
What would you do if your dog was off lead and saw another dog across the road and decides to run to play with them?
Do you have enough control to recall your dog under these circumstances? Can you give your dog the command to “down” as he runs off?
A strong recall or even an emergency down could prevent your dog being hit by a car, running towards an aggressive dog or a even a dog thief.
You are probably thinking I can achieve this all at my local dog training club, but can you? Dogs become familiar with their surroundings and often enough attending dog training classes can not replicate the real life situations faced in every day life.
With our training methods we teach you and your dog to be successful in everyday situations with guidance and most importantly fun.
